Activity content

Suitable for beginners and younger children, this fun activity involves creating games using Scratch, a friendly, visual yet powerful coding platform. Students are taught creative coding techniques, and are then encouraged to put into practice what they have learnt, adding their own ideas, experimenting and creating their own games.

Scratch code blocks

Games coding
Scratch utilises a simple Lego like visual coding interface in which blocks can be combined to create powerful processes called algorithms. Young learners soon grasp the idea and before long are able to create movement and interaction. Under instruction they learn how to create player controlled, and automated, animations, collisions, and chases which delight and empower their imaginations.

Pixelmator image editing

Image design
Scratch has a powerful image creation feature so students can create their own characters, objects and backdrops. We also have a scanner so students can bring in drawings and paintings and integrate them into their games.

Garageband music production

Music production and sound FX
Games are always enhanced by sound so we have an extensive sound FX library, and students can use Garageband to create background music for their games.

Tailored content
Teaching content is tailored to challenge and improve each learner's existing skills and knowledge. Learners are continually assessed to establish the level they are working at and to stretch them.

Gov.UK logo

Our activities cover attainment targets from the National Computing Curriculum.

Create then play
Our clubs are not simply an opportunity to play games, students must create their own and in only two of the ten sessions are they permitted to play games others have created.

Age range & SEN
