Activity content
This fun activity involves creating games using Scratch, Pixelmator and Garageband. Students are taught to build a complete game using creative coding techniques, and are then encouraged to put into practice what they have learnt to add their own ideas or create their own game.

Games coding
Scratch games programming is at the heart of our Games Design courses. We use Scratch Desktop to build powerful interactive games, thereby giving our students a visual foothold in the concepts of coding. Scratch is powerful and scalable, allowing both simple coding exercises and the development of complex games. We teach all the components of object-orientated programming, the current industry standard approach. Students learn concepts and skills such as file management, animation, character and object control, and coding concepts such as event handlers, control statements, variables loops, properties and functions. These concepts and skills are industry standard and part of the Computing core curriculum in UK schools.

Image design
Games coding is not just about coding. Our students also learn how to create, edit and download images to add to their games, and the various types and uses of image file formats. We use Pixelmator for Mac which emulates many of the features of Photoshop, another industry standard.

Music production and sound FX
Games come to life when music and FX are added. We have an extensive library of FX and our students can produce their own music by layering instrument performances in Garageband.
Tailored content
Teaching content is tailored to challenge and improve each learner's existing skills and knowledge. Learners are continually assessed to establish the level they are working at and to stretch them.
Create then play
Our clubs are not simply an opportunity to play games, students must create their own and in only some of the sessions are they permitted to play games others have created.
Age range & SEN
These activities are suitable for any 7-12 year old child including beginners and those with previous experience of Scratch. All your child needs is a keen interest in gaming and learning to code. Is your child ready?
