Graphic animation effects

In this tutorial you will add animated graphic effects to the Cat sprite. You will use the number keys on your keyboard to make the animations work.

 

Complete these steps ..

 

1. Create a new game. Either open Scratch or if it is already open choose "File>New" ..

 

 

2. Select the cat sprite under the stage and re-name it ..

 

 

3. Add the 1st graphic effect animation ..

Notice how the script first sets the effect to 0 (off) and then cycles through the 200 possible colours in steps of 10.

Press the "1" key on your keyboard to try it out.

 

 

4. Add the 2nd graphic effect animation ..

Notice how the script first sets the effect to 400 and then slowly removes the effect in 40 steps of 10.

Press the "2" key on your keyboard to try it out.

 

 

5. Add the 3rd graphic effect animation ..

Notice how the script first sets the effect to 1000 and then slowly removes the effect in 100 steps of 10.

Press the "3" key on your keyboard to try it out.

 

 

6. Use "File>Save as" to name and save your game. Name it "Graphic effects" ..

 

 

7. Add the 4th graphic effect animation ..

Notice how the script first sets the effect to 100 and then slowly removes the effect in 10 steps of 10.

Press the "4" key on your keyboard to try it out.

 

 

8. Add the 5th graphic effect animation ..

Notice how the script first sets the effect to 100 and then slowly removes the effect in 10 steps of 10

Press the "5" key on your keyboard to try it out.

 

 

9. Add the 6th graphic effect animation ..

Notice how the script first sets the effect to -100 and then slowly adds the effect in 100 steps of 1 until normal brightness (0) is achieved.

Press the "6" key on your keyboard to try it out.

 

 

10. Add the 7th and final graphic effect animation ..

Notice how the script first turns the effect off, and then slowly adds the effect in 100 steps of 1, before finally turning it off again.

Press the "7" key on your keyboard to try it out.

 

 

11. Use "File>Save" to re-save your game ..

 

 

12. Well done, you've finished this exercise. Why not create some new sprites and try these scripts out on them too?
