Matt Ottewill - BA(hons), MA

Matt Ottewill teachingMatt has been in education and digital media for over 25 years. He splits his time between his children, professional digital media projects, and his education work. Education is his passion, and his professional work equips him with the up to date knowledge and skills he needs to ensure our classes are relevant.

In addition to The Pixel Gang, he maintains and develops two free learning sites for older learners, Planet Of Tunes, and Project Studio Handbook, and is a member of various educational groups interested in improving the learning experiences of both child and adult learners.

Matt has written City & Guilds level 3 and 4 diploma and apprenticeship qualifications in Digital Marketing, Multimedia, Music Technology, and Sound Engineering, and held many roles including head of learning, qualification writer and reviewer, course leader and senior lecturer, at a wide variety of organisations including Livity, Rose Bruford College, Kingston University, City & Guilds, University Of Greenwich, Royal College Of Music, The Institute of Music & Technology, Agilisys Arch and Lambeth College.

Matt has a first class degree in Music Technology, a masters degree in Art Design & Visual Culture, is a qualified CAVA assessor, has a teaching qualification, and safeguarding and paediatric first aid certificates.

"We rightly expect young adults to have good literacy and maths skills, but it is becoming essential to know about underlying digital media concepts too. Most learners arriving at college don't know the difference between computer memory and storage, or a pixel and a dot, and seem to think that re-using images, video and music downloaded from the internet is creativity. This is alarming. We need to be teaching our children basic digital media theory, good practice and the benefits of creativity, at our schools." Matt 2014

Tracy Jewitt - BA(hons)

Tracy was a founding member of The Pixel Gang and divided her time between her children, The Pixel Gang, and working as the marketing manager for one of the UK's leading childcare and private household recruitment agencies.

Tracy passed away in July 2016. She is greatly missed by her family and friends and all the parents and children who came to our courses and clubs.

Tracy Jewitt and son

She had a wide knowledge of the use of digital media in marketing and the value of creative thinking in business. Her skills included copy writing, design and layout, theatre production, acting, script editing, digital marketing and childcare.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Studies and English, she worked in childcare for over 10 years as a Nanny/Housekeeper, whilst simultaneously pursuing her passion for acting and theatre, working on the London Fringe with a number of different theatre companies in leading roles.

Tracy's passion for story-telling, acting, literature and drama is infectious and was used to great effect in our video production course where the children must create, act in, film and edit a short film.

Quality, fairness and safety

The Pixel Gang has trained teachers, policies, and training and review processes to ensure safety and fairness.

We have Safeguarding, Paediatric first aid, and Paediatric Anaphylaxis certificates, and completed enhanced DBS (CRB) checks.

All our Policies and Certificates are here.
